Today’s trip to the Rivière Rouge was changed because of expected high winds and thunderstorms around 2pm. Instead some of the club members headed out to Lafaivre and were surprised to find perfectly calm water on the Ottawa river. A quick trip across the river and then up the Salmon River to a peaceful resting spot. Winds picked up a bit on the way back making the Ottawa river a little choppy but nothing we couldn’t handle. Back at the cars by 2pm not a drop of rain touched us.

Starting at the boat launch on Patterson Creek we kayaked towards Parliament Hill and the Ottawa river. Once we reached the boat locks we turned around and paddled to Dow's lake and then returned to the boat launch.
It looked like it would rain but the weather held off and a nice paddle took place. Calm on the inside water and little choppy but fun water on the Ottawa River side.

A few members made it out for a Canada Day paddle. Leaving from Ingleside and heading west on a really calm St. Lawrence river. Water was warm enough to enjoy a quick swim.
Shifting weather caused shifting start times. Because of the predicted 2 pm thunderstorms the start time was changed from 1 pm to 11:30 and then 12. Thanks to the warm welcome of a local resident some of the kayakers were able to abandon the waters when the storm picked up around 2 pm. When the weather was nice the kayaking was great. Hopefully better weather next week.
The 7 members of the club and a guest visited the Morris Island Conservation area today. Beautiful calm waters and great weather made for a wonderful day. Just east of Arnprior Ontario the area was packed with people getting out after weeks of confinement and great weather.
