The Chesterville Kayak Club was formed in the spring of 2010 by an enthusiastic volunteer group of recreational and touring kayak paddlers.
We are a registered non profit organization with the purposes of:
As a community minded volunteer group, the club has taken an active part in, and financial support of, such activities as " Kayaking for Cancer " and support for the new Chesterville Water Front Project and docking facilities located on the South Nation River.
Throughout the summer months, one or two trips a week are planned by members on local waterways such as the South Nation River, Rideau River, Ottawa River and the St.Lawrence River, near the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary and the Long Sault Parkway. Picnics and island cook outs are often a part of these outings, as well as post trip socializing at local businesses and restaurants.
...the focus is always on safety in our boats and fun on and off the water...
We have traveled further afield on several occasions, enjoying trips... along the Ottawa River to Chateau Montebello... a trip to Lac des Seize Iles and Lac Laurel in Quebec, a pristine lake district near a members cottage... and also a trip to Lake Nipissing, where members stayed at a paddle in lodge on Oak Island. The Lake Nipissing area is known for great fishing and boating, but it is also a place of historical significance, as the voyageurs traveled through here during the days of Canada's fur trade.
The Chesterville Kayak Club is active throughout all the seasons of the year. We hope to offer members opportunities to:
1. Contribute to the community by supporting all paddlers and participating in river stewardship projects.
2. A yearly schedule of trips and and seasonal special events.
3. Information about all the waters that we paddle.
4. Regular club meetings and events.
Kayaking is both fun and challenging and is a great way to experience remote and beautiful areas of our country as well as to explore nearby waterways that are often overlooked and underutilized.
Whether beginner or experienced, young or not so young, we welcome all to " join us on the water "
