August 2011 News:

Hey everyone! We've been very active kayaking on the St.Lawrence River, the South Nation River and the historic Rideau Canal system. Club members, Andre and Elaine Lavictoire, placed two geo-cache on Broder Island near Morrisburg and along with Lenny and Bonnie, an effort was made to clean up the island garbage problem. This is a scenic island and camping area for everyone, if it could only be kept a little cleaner. Also, a team of club paddlers (Sheila Boardman, Patricia Blouin, Andre and Elaine Lavictoire, Bonnie MacIntosh and Lenny Jones) entered the Voyageur Canoe Race at Merrickville, Canalfest and came away with the second prize of $90.00 and an honourable mention for best costume. Check out this link for the Kayaking for Cancer event on the Rideau Canal system from Kingston to Ottawa. Club members taking part were Bernie Curran, Jane Sachs, Joan Davis, Jeremy McMullen and Bob and Linda Lafontaine. The Chesterville and Winchester fairs were attended and our 50/50 tickets are selling well. This weekend (Friday, August 19th till noon on Sunday, August 21st), a campsite for club members has been rented at the Merrickville Lions Campground, for kayaking and camping on the historic and scenic Rideau Canal system. More info to follow by email. Be sure to check the Calendar and Directions pages for upcoming events or, for more info, please use the Contact Form or call 613-448-2099 or email rccoons@aol.com

July 2011 News:

Hey there; Very glad to see that you're all still tuning in. A lot has happened in the past couple of months. Members have been on the South Nation River since April 15th and we have many new faces. The kayak assist launching docks have been installed at the new Chesterville waterfront. This is a first in the area. Check them out paddlers. They are best for recreational size kayaks, but should help all. The club took part in the Spencerville Paddle Poker Run in May. Fun for all and a prize for everyone. Can't wait till next year. Many evening paddles followed and a favourite one of mine; an all day paddle from the Chesterville waterfront to Cass Bridge and back. The trip started with breakfast at Louis' Restaurant (Chesterville) and ended back at Louis' for supper, with a lunch time stop for ice cream at the Cass Bridge Conservation Area. During the Upper Canada Rodeo in Chesterville, the club set up a booth by the waterfront. The weather was great and all had a good time taking part in this successful community endeavour. We sold T-Shirts, bottled water, strawberries and half and half tickets for a draw to be held on October 11th, 2011. As the water warmed in June, we began to paddle in the St.Lawrence River. We have been kayaking in the Morrisburg and Ingleside areas, with one cook out on Broder Island. A basic kayaking course will also be held in Ingleside at the boat launch on July 16th. Well, that's it for now; But guess what ... There's still more to come !

Note: We have many impromptu events, making it difficult to keep our website up to date. A trip is being planned for Lac des Seize Iles, Quebec and others are being discussed. As well, some members will be joining the Kayaking for Cancer run from Kingston to Ottawa on the Rideau Canal system. For quick access to the Chesterville Kayak Club's most recent activities, please use our "Contact Form" or use the email addresses and phone number provided. There is a contact phone number at the bottom of every web page and you are always welcome at our monthly meetings. These are held on the second Tuesday of every month. All information and directions are provided on the website.
And now...  It's time for paddling !  We look forward to meeting you on the water !

Memories of 2010

Much has been accomplished this past year, from  the raffle of "Buba the Bear" to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society, and, support for "Kayaking for Cancer", to a raffle of a kayak in support of the new Chesterville Waterfront Development. I don't know where we found all the time for paddling and friendship. I look forward to another year on, and off the water, with all of you ~ Lenny
...It just doesn't get any better !
